As a young girl I had many dreams. One of them was to become a successful writer. Another was to become an artist. I also loved different cultures and had a dream to become an anthropologist and travel the world studying, photographing, and helping distant cultures. I had another dream to marry a prince and become wealthy. Many of my dreams seemed to be unachievable. However, in one form or another, I am living out my wildest dreams.
My life has had it’s up’s and down’s. I lost a child at sixteen years of age. This led to some poor choices and a life of drug abuse, resulting in me leaving school early! I was single, alone, and filled with hurt at the loss I had suffered; but I had my dreams!
Now, at thirty four years of age, I have a doctorate degree in counseling and have written a number of successful books. I have become an artist with future plans of opening my own gallery and art store. I have adopted five children from Haiti and have two natural born boys. I have travelled the globe visiting orphanages and have helped organizations build children’s homes. I am married to an amazing man and together, we have become personally wealthy. Many other life dreams that I have seen in my past have also become a reality!
I believe every little girl has dreams! Let me tell you ladies, it is possible for each of us to experience our most wonderful dreams! There are many avenues to living our dreams. I would like to share some that I have personally discovered, and followed, to experience the shift of my dreams into reality! My hope is that every woman that reads these ideas will be encouraged and inspired to see their most amazing dreams become a reality!
No matter what state life has left us in, each of us ladies has a beauty and a hope inside that can conquer any setback and lead us into the joy of truly living our dreams!

See “your” dreams clearly
Until you are clear on what you want, you won’t get it. The first step to having a better life is dreaming of one!
To see your dreams clearly you must distinguish between your true desires and those that others have boxed you into according to culture, lifestyle, economic background, etc.
Your dream should excite you! Never settle for second best! Set your sights on dreams that you feel are worth pursuing. Ask yourself: What excites you? What stirs a passion in you? What brings you great joy? What makes you furious? What do you excel at? What do others say you are good at? These will lead to a picture of your dream!
Once you have begun to see your dream clearly you must shift your thinking to believe you can actually achieve this!
Shift your thinking
Negative thoughts bring negative experiences! We have all encountered enough of these! It is time to shift our thoughts!
Henry Ford once said, “If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.”
Your present thoughts have brought you to where you are in life today! If you would see a dream of a better life, then shift your thinking to believe you can attain it, then you will have it!
If you want more, if you want your dream, your thinking must enlarge! This is why I believe wholeheartedly in working on your mind. People can develop their gifts and talents but if they refuse to train their minds they will live boring, unsuccessful and unfulfilled lives.
Instead of thinking of all the reasons why you can’t have your dreams, begin by dwelling on this thought, “I am the right woman in the right place for the right opportunity, for my dreams to become a reality!”
Why not begin to think of all the reasons why you will have your dreams! This will require creative thinking.
Get creative
Whenever we get caught in a rut we must break the pattern that holds us in mediocrity! If you will take time to watch a sunset or visit a natural wonder, such as the Grand Canyon, you will have the opportunity to think expansively.
Creativity is inherent in each individual! It merely takes different circumstances to draw this out! For some it takes exercise, others a walk by a cool stream! There are those who are enlivened by sex and then again many by a much earned holiday! Whatever your avenue to tap your creative potential, you must believe it is there and then begin to access it’s inexhaustible flow!
Start with this simple activity! Do something you thoroughly enjoy and then sit down and write out 30 ways your dreams could become a reality!
One sure way for your dreams to shift into reality is by associating with people who have begun to live their dreams!
Associate higher
When you associate higher, your thinking begins to expand. I remember when I started spending time with millionaires; they were talking about business deals that were in amounts that blew my mind. Then I went shopping with these people and the price they paid for clothes and shoes was more than some people earn in a month! This exposure to rich living stretched my perspective and gave me a greater personal framework to base my dreams upon! This was the start to my thinking and lifestyle today!
Ask yourself: Who do I know who lives on a higher level than me? Then think about how you will get to spend time with them to expose yourself to their framework of thinking! Offer to pay for supper, or some other idea, you will never be the same again when you begin to associate higher! This will enable you to see an even bigger dream.
Dream bigger
Most people don’t write down their most wonderful dreams. Why? Because they are afraid of failure! When their dreams seem impossible it is easier to settle for second best and never be disappointed! This thought process inadvertently locks them into a mundane existence!
I want you to challenge that point of impossibility! Everyone who has ever lived an amazing life has had to do this!
Take a moment and think of what you would do in life if you had unlimited resources, support, counsel, and opportunity! I have discovered that doors remain closed until we actively pursue the impossible; so begin by writing down your answers! One door that will begin to open immediately is the door of your heart to the thought of possibility and hope! This is a key ingredient to fulfilling your dreams!
I want to challenge you to expect more out of life! What we expect, we will prepare for! What we prepare for we will eventually embrace opportunities for, instead of letting them pass us by!
Prepare yourself for your dreams
There are two kinds of education. The first is one that most people in our society experience. That is, through a school system while growing up. The second form of education is rarely embraced, it is called “self-education!”
Mark Twain once commented that, “A man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read.”
This statement obviously pertains to us ladies also. Statistics say that 60% of people will never read a book after they have graduated! This is why so few ever realize their greatest dreams. To see your dreams shift into reality you must learn and develop in new areas of understanding!
What you put into yourself through books, CD’s, DVD’s, etc. will determine what your life eventually produces.
Zig Ziglar often quips, “If you are not satisfied with your output, change your input.”
Information can quickly shift your life in a whole new direction! If it is good input, your life will continually move forward! The only thing that can stop you then is if “you” choose to let your dreams die.
Don’t give up on your dreams
I remember several years ago, going through a difficult situation. Every part of me wanted to quit. I took out a pair of scissors, as I had heard others do, and I cut out the words quit, quitter, and quitting from my dictionary. I declared publicly that the word “QUIT” will no longer be a part of my vocabulary. Some of you may have to do the same thing!
Looking back, I am so happy that I took that step that day! If I hadn’t, my life would not be where it is today!
A failure is not a person who fails. A failure is a person who quits! Why? They have chosen to cut off their own opportunities for success rather than fighting to stop circumstances doing it!
There is greatness inside of you. Your dreams really can become a reality. Things may come against your plans but nothing can steal your dreams! It is when your direction is tested that you must stand strong and say, “I will never give up, I will not quit. I was born to win, and win I will. My dreams are closer than I think. I will succeed and my dreams will become a reality.”
It is a great risk to stand for your dreams, but those who never risk anything have already disqualified themselves from the prize!
Become a risk taker
Life is full of risk, but it is too short to waste time bound by fear and indecision!
I have met people who are so afraid of flying that they wouldn’t risk getting onto a plane even if they were to win a dream vacation in a tropical destination!
There are ways to alleviate the fear that risk presents:
a) Become educated, this removes the fear of the unknown.
b) List the worse possible scenario and pitch it against the loss of never risking at all in life.
c) Take plenty of small, educated risks and build a tolerance to risk aversion.
d) List all the successes you have had because of taking educated risks.
e) List all the benefits of the present opportunity and dwell on them.
f) Always undertake “due diligence” which means thoroughly assess and analyze the opportunity.
g) Seek plenty of wise counsel.
One of the greatest ways to reduce risk is by having a relationship with a seasoned traveler of the road you wish to follow! In other words, seek out a great mentor!
Have a great mentor
A few words from a great mentor can save you literally years of heartache!
The greatest mentors willingly desire to see you succeed! I know that with some of the people I mentor, I am convinced that I want them to succeed even more than they want to succeed themselves.
How can you be a great recipient of mentoring?
a) Be teachable: “It is impossible for a man to learn what he already thinks he knows.” – John L. Mason
b) Value your mentor highly: Appreciate them with words, gifts, willingness to listen and apply their instruction, and don’t be unwilling to spend money on them or to be with them. You will receive far more from a good mentor than you could ever give them anyway, so don’t hold back!
c) Consume your mentor’s resources: Go to their speaking events, purchase their products, and pursue them.
If you do this they will point you in a direction that will enable you to finish your race on a positive note!
Finish strong
If you have ever played baseball, you will know that if you finish on third base then you are no better off than striking out! You must make it all the way home!
Many start towards their dreams with enthusiasm but this isn’t enough. We must maintain the enthusiasm right to the finish! Where you stop is where you stop! That is a profound statement if you think about it.
Decide today to make a firm commitment that you will finish strong and go all the way to your dream!
It is my desire that this information would lead you into continued application. You have started the journey; now continue to walk it through and your dreams will become a reality! I believe in you!
